As you may have already seen, the Government has made a number of proposals to amend current employment legislation.
The proposals are as follows:
- The provision for up to 12 weeks paid neonatal care for parents whose babies are admitted to neonatal care. This will be in addition to current entitlements to maternity and paternity leave etc
- An extension of redundancy protections whilst on maternity, adoption or shared parental leave to cover pregnant employees during maternity leave as well as a period after they have returned to work
- A new entitled for unpaid carers to a week of flexible unpaid leave each year for those who are responsible for caring for someone with long-term care needs
- A potential extension to flexible working to make it a day one right and to allow two requests in a 12 month period
- A ban to subject low income workers to restrictive covenants
- Clarifying the rules on holiday pay and carrying holidays over into new leave years
- Allowing ‘rolled up’ holiday pay to be paid to workers with atypical working hours
At the moment there are no implementation dates for these changes but employers should be aware of these and that they may be required to update policies and practice in line with these changes.
